Parents and Friends of the RoboDogs,

Hello, we are the Vacaville High School FIRST Robotics Team and we’re looking to tell you about our program and why we need your support. We compete in an international program called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Our goal is to uphold the program’s value of educating and empowering youth through robotics. We set a fundraising goal of $50,000, with $38,000 coming from people like you.

Since our founding in 2006, we’ve been winning a variety of awards for robotics and supporting the community. We were particularly successful last year, captaining our alliance and reaching the quarterfinals in both our competitions. We earned the prestigious Excellence in Engineering award and attribute this to our hard work, committed new recruits, and the hopeful culture that has been developed within our club. To reach worlds, we’ll need to fund-raise more.

Recently our team has been going through some difficult changes. We’ve lost many of our key mentors and are dealing with a location change.  We will be moving into a shop a mile and a half away from our on-campus location, making transportation difficult.

As we enter our fifteenth season, we have a group of devoted and driven students, a small group of dedicated mentors, and parent volunteers. This year, all of our students averaged over 115 hours working on our robot in a 6 week period, totaling over 1,840 hours between the 16 of us.

Unfortunately, a passion for the sciences isn't enough;  our program requires funding to be successful. With the combined cost of regional entry fees, travel costs, and the materials and tools for robot construction, our program is an expensive one. The regional entry fees are $14,000 alone, but these costs will be much higher since we hope to go to the World Championship in Houston, TX this year. It costs roughly $6,000 to build a robot, an additional $10,000 for maintaining a shop, and $20,000 for travel. We currently have over $3,000 saved from last year. With your help, we hope to reach our fundraising goal of $50,000. To achieve this, we’ll apply to many grants, host events, and ask for donations.

If you’d like to write a check to help us, please address it to “Vaca High Robotics Club” and send it to Vacaville High School. We would also love to meet with you at either our workshop or your business, and hope that you will join us in our mission. Feel free to contact us! Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

Thank you,
